The business is run by John and Barbara Jaunutis with son Kane looking after the winemaking. The business launched in 2004 and by 2010 was already named in the top ten new wineries in Australia with a 5 star rating by James Halliday. Kane is an experienced winemaker working vintages at Trevor Jones and Mitolo Estates. He also has extensive wine retail experience running East End Cellars in Adelaide. This work exposed him to the many different global wine styles and has influenced his winemaking accordingly. They focus on red blends with an emphasis on Shiraz, Grenache and Mouvedre.  The wines are rich, opulent and dense without prominent oak or tannic influence. Kane is quick to distinguish their wines from those of the corporate competition, stating “I am interested in balance and complexity without being hit in the face with oak”. This 5000 case winery is doing all the right things at the moment and is bound to be around for a long time.

Grenache 2008

Deep Garnet with brick red hues, the wine shows obvious “legs” and weight in the glass. The aromas are quite “Southern Rhone-Like” with notes of figs, dates, raspberries and cocoa. The palate is rich, mouthfilling and thickly textured, with soft tannins and a warming finish. A classic version of old vine Barossa Grenache… a fine example of why the variety should get more attention in the region. Cellar 5-10 years. 93 points.

The Siren Rose 2009

A blend of 55% Shiraz and 45% Grenache. Interestingly, this wine was fermented in old oak with indigenous yeasts and less stirred for 3 months prior to bottling. The style is unique, with aromas of red currants, strawberries, raspberries and earth.  The palate is quite full bodied, with fine tannin texture and a dry medium acid finish. A super drinkable style, that is interesting to boot. Cellar 0-3 years. 91 points.
